Intellectual Property : Your IDEAS should only belongs to you
not many of us are aware on IP @ Intellectual Property ..the secret behind it...some people are creative...artistic..creativite..innovative..inventive but they dunno how to put their invention on the right track...
on top of that..intellectual property are needed to protect the commercial values of ideas and information by providing an ownership to the creator...
some definition on IP categories to think of..
1) Copyright ©
- a bundle of right to the owner to protect original literary and artistic works from others for copying or exploiting author's work without permission.
- coverage : artistic works, literature, software, films, performances, songs, sound recording, typographical arrangement of published editions, movies, sculptures, paintings, music, books.
- example : Monalisa Potrait by Leonardo Da Vinci, Windows XP, John Grisham's Book, Independence Day film
2) Trade Marks ®
- commercial identifications or a mark used to distinguish goods or services from one trader to another. it can be same product but in different brand name/trademarks
- mark can be : words, designs, slogans, logos, symbols, signature, label, ticket, name, numbers, images, or any combination above.
- example : Colgate, Darlie, SKII, Biotherm, Linux, Pizza Hut, Microsoft, Guess, Rolex
3) Patent
- a grant given by government to the rightful and first inventor of a novel(new) invention to prevent from exploitation
- scope : novel and useful products or processes and apparatus, or technology
- example : tyre by Dunlop, telephone by Abraham Graham Bell, Linux by Torvald Linus
4) Industrial Design
- the differentiate of product appearance. it can be same product but in different appearance.
- features applied : shape, configuration, pattern or ornament or aesthatic, line, color
- perfume bottles, mugs, cups, handset, pen, house,
5) Trade Secret & Confidential Information
- a protection of valueable information on know how, show how that are subject to secrecy from public that if reveal to public will cause a competitive edge in producing an selling the same goods or services.
- scope : recipes, list of customer, ingredient, how to make or produce
- example : KFC original recipe, Famous Amos cookies, Pizza Hut's pizza
6) Geographical Indications
- a sign used on goods that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that place of origin.
- type of indication : name of the place of origin of the goods, qualities of products,
- example : agricultural product (Tuscany), cheese(Roquefort), watch(Swiss),
7) Layout Designs Of Integrated Circuits
- two-dimensional and three-dimensional features of shape and surface of objects (topographies), and thus covers both concepts of "designs" and "models" where a distinction is made between the former and the latter.
- scope : shape, surface
- example : computer chip, semi conductor chip
